The Blog Re-Launch

I’m going to be honest. I suck at social media. I love occasionally checking Instagram to see what my friends are up to and posting pics from time to time but other than that I’m a ghost. I’ve always been a pretty private person so maybe that has something to do with. I envy people that truly enjoy logging into Facebook, posting, tweeting, basically participating in all forms of social media. I just get nothing out of it. It feels like a chore to me. I’m going to try something new with my blog. Instead of approaching it as a blog I’m going to approach it more like an online journal. Obviously I won’t be discussing the intimate details of my life (not that you want to hear them), but I will be posting about the books I’m reading, thoughts I’m thinking, booze I’m drinking, my friends, etc. Thanks so much to those of you who check in from time to time to see what’s going on in my world. I hope you’re all well!

Catching Fire

I have to say, I’m excited for this movie to come out! James Newton Howard killed the score and I’m really proud to have worked on it. Opening weekend is November 22nd so get out there and see it!

Shades of Jackson @ Hotel Cafe

Hello friends, we’ll be playing @ Hotel Cafe on Thursday, Nov 7th at 9:30pm. This is going to be a stripped down set so I’m excited to play some new arrangements. This is our first show in a few months and will probably be our last one of the year so we’re looking forward to seeing everyone there, playing some music, and drinking some of Hotel Cafe’s freezing cold beers.

Hope to see you soon,

Son Lux – Lanterns

I don’t usually edit or re-post but this is the exception. Today is the release date for the new Son Lux album and I’m really excited about it. Do yourself a favor and check it out now!! You can find it on Spotify and any other online store where music is sold. ENJOY!!

So the new Son Lux album Lanterns is scheduled for release in October but Ryan Lott has already released a track from the album (which happens to be one of my favorites off the album) entitled “Lost It To Trying”. In 24 hours the song was streamed 10k times and in less than a week it’s hit 70k streams. Not to shabby. I’m really excited about this release of this album for a few reasons. The first is that it’s incredible, the second is that I was honored to play bass and pedal steel on the first track entitled “Alternate World”, and the third is it looks like I’ll be playing multiple instruments for the album release shows. I know that sounds really self involved but to say I’m proud to be a part of this project would be a big understatement. The previous Son Lux Release, “We Are Rising”, blew my effing socks off. Lanterns has done that and more.

Check out Pitchfork’s review of “Lost It To Trying” HERE.

I get emailed by pedal steel players every once in a while asking me what I’ve been listening to and what I’ve been shedding. Well I had a session yesterday with Justin Glasco and Tyler Hilton and at the end of it Tyler told me to check out the new Vince Gill/Paul Franklin album “Bakersfield”. I did and I won’t be leaving my place for the next 6 months. Vince sounds great and Paul’s playing is incredible. Thank you Tyler!! This will keep me in the shed for a while.

Shades of Jackson @ Hotel Cafe

Shades of Jackson is playing a 45 minute set at Hotel Cafe on Thursday, August 8th at 9pm sharp!! I’ll also be playing pedal steel for Jesse Thomas’ set directly after mine. There’s a good chance she’ll join me for a song or two as well. 🙂 It’s going to be an awesome hang. Hotel Cafe is one of my favorite venues. I’ve played it many times with other artists but this will be the first time I’ll be playing it with this project. Thanks to everyone who made the last show so special. I hope to see you all again.
